Feathers and Filaments Galore

It's a bit of a minefield, but we are confident that with a little help you'll find the perfect duvet and pillow for your bed.

In short, yes. All our feather, down and wool fillings meet hypoallergenic standards meaning that they are suitable for use by people with allergies. You can read more about this here.

Whether you like firm, soft, bouncy, flat, one or two pillows is a very personal preference but we're happy to help you choose. Have a read of our guide to choosing a pillow and then if you still need more help then feel free to give our friendly and knowledgeable Customer Smile Makers a call.

First of all, what is a tog? A tog is a unit of measurement used to indicate the warmth of a duvet; the higher the tog rating, the warmer the duvet will be. We would recommend a 2.5 or 4.5 tog for the summer months, a 9 or 10.5 tog for the spring and autumn and a 13.5 or 15 tog duvet for the winter. If you want a duvet you can use year round, then we'd recommend choosing a 9 or 10.5 tog or you can always go for an All Seasons option which incorporates two duvets (4.5 and 10 tog) which can be used separately throughout the year but then popper together to make a 13.5 tog duvet for winter use. You can read more about all things tog right here.

The lifespan of duvets and pillows varies depending on the fill, how regularly their used and how they're cared for. However, it is generally recommended to replace pillows every 1-2 years and duvets every 5-10 years. Over time, pillows lose their shape and support, and duvets can lose their loft and insulation properties. Regularly assessing their condition and replacing them as needed ensures optimal comfort and hygiene. You can read more about caring for your filled bedding right here.

We have a fill for everyone here at Secret Linen Store. We have feather and down with its excellent insulation properties, synthetic options for those preferring to avoid a natural fill, as well as an organic wool offering if you're looking for something with outstanding eco credentials. Each product listing features a detailed description if you need to read up on the different fills, or you can read more about our bedding options here. And if you still need help, please call and chat things through with our lovely Customer Smile Makers.
