Throw, bed throw, quilt, bedspread, blanket, or how about the more old-fashioned counterpane? There are so many different words for these fabulous and colourful accessories, and so many styles to take into consideration.
So how do we go about finding the perfect throw for our bed? Find a cosy corner and take a read through this simple guide to the different throws and quilts that we offer.
Knitted throws
Our knitted throws are exactly that... throws made out of cotton or wool yarns knitted together to make a slightly stretchy and drapey fabric. These throws are smaller than some of our other offerings which makes them the perfect size to drape over the end of your bed or to snuggle down with on the sofa on a chilly evening.
Quilts
Our quilted throws are a much-loved favourite here at Secret Linen Store. They have a lovely weight to them and come in a beautiful range of washed colours. Our quilts are not made using the more traditional quilting method (a layer of wadding sandwiched between two decorative layers of fabric), but instead the fabric is woven on a jacquard loom using a technique called ‘double face weaving’ where a series of cotton strings are woven in with the outer fabric. This allows us to create a 100% cotton quilt with a delightfully drapey feel.
Bedspreads
A bedspread is usually heavier and more structured than a quilt or throw and is designed to cover the entire bed for decorative purposes. Our beautiful Verity bedspread is woven with an intricate matelassé design resulting in a stunning piece that will transform your bed into something very stylish indeed.
Our larger quilted throws can also be used as a bedspread if your bed is small enough. Our largest quilt is our Black and Natural Stripe in an emperor size which will give excellent coverage as a bedspread.
Woven throws
These throws vary in weight and drapiness but are all made from either 100% cotton or linen – or a beautiful blend of both – and can be used however you wish! Rosa features a beautiful linen frill and can be used as a statement piece on an otherwise simple bed, Porto has a more classic structured look and sits perfectly folded over the end of a bed dressed in crisp white cotton. We also have the very lightweight and pretty Neo (also available in green) and Nancy, which are perfect for a summer bed. Waffle throws
Another customer favourite, our classic waffle throws have a delightful bouncy drape and come in a wide range of statement colours. Woven from 100% cotton, they feature a distinctive waffle-like texture which gives depth and intrigue to the fabric as well as helping to trap air, making these throws delightfully warm and cosy while still being surprisingly lightweight.
Perfect for sofa snuggles as well as for ‘throwing’ aesthetically on your bed.
Blankets
If you’re after a more traditional blanket then we have a few thick and cosy options for you. Our Sonny throws are softer than the softest thing we’ve ever felt (and also have a matching cushion cover available) and we can’t deny that we’ve been fighting over them in the office on those chilly winter days. Our Lewes throw features a very stylish coastal stripe and is finished off with a fringe, just perfect for picnics and sofas.
