Our Office Sustainability Roadmap

Hello all, we wanted to pop in again this month to give you an update on our roadmap to sustainability at Secret Linen Store. We know that this is a really important project for us, so we want to make sure that you, our lovely customers, are kept up to date as we start this very important adventure.

Other than making beautiful beds, our number one top priority right now as a business is sustainability. From our suppliers, to our offices and last but not least, our products and packaging, we're on a mission to completely pull apart our materials and processes and piece them back together in the most eco-friendly ways possible.

Let's start from the inside

There's a lot of work for us to do, so we're starting from the inside out, and making sure that our offices and our team is as eco as possible, and that sustainability is at the forefront of our minds everyday, in everything we do.

We're starting right at the beginning with the shipping of our beautiful bed linens. We have already started speaking to our delivery companies, as we want to make sure that the shrink wrap (the outside packaging that keeps our deliveries safe and secure) isn't the conventional cling wrap that's most commonly used. It's a small step, but one that will most definitely save a lot of waste and single use plastic.

Next up, it's all about our lovely office (soon to be offices). Now this is quite a long to-do list, but definitely one of the more exciting tasks for us.

Getting straight into the nitty-gritty, we're going to be installing smart meters at our offices, and we will be setting company wide targets for waste and energy reduction, which we will tell all our wonderful team about and educate them so we can be efficient as a group.

Speaking of our lovely staff, we will start looking into food composters for the offices, as well as starting our very own vegetable patches (we can't wait for the tomato growing competitions).

Next up, let's chat about waste. Usually not the most exciting subject, but in the name of sustainability, a very important stop on our roadmap.

We've mentioned that we want to install food composters into our offices, but that is just scratching the surface. We are looking to review all of our waste and recycling contracts to make sure that we are doing to utmost we can, and that no stone goes unturned when it comes to being the least wasteful we can be.

There are a few trickier things to recycle in office spaces, just like printer ink cartridges, so we will be researching and finding a company with sustainability in mind, who can recycle these for us. We try to print as little as possible and only when we really need to, but for the little waste we have from printing, we think it's important that this is recycled sustainability. We will also be reviewing our actual printing policy that's already in place, just to make sure that it's the best it can be.

This is certainly not an extensive list of everything we are up to, but we hope you agree that it's a very very good start, we are rolling up our pyjama sleeves as we speak. If you have any advice or tips on office sustainability, we would love to hear them, so please let us know through our social media channels, by email or give us a call, we always love a green, sustainable chat and we have a lot to learn too.
