Pantone's Colour of 2020: Out with the Old, In with the Blue
Image from the Pantone Colour Institute
From Millennial Pink to Tangerine Tango, Ultra Violet to Chili Pepper, the end of the year always has us interior lovers perched on the edge of our seats, eagerly awaiting Pantone's announcement of which colour will reign supreme for the next 12 months. Drumroll, please. The shade ringing in 2020 and the beginning of a new era is tried-and-true, Classic Blue.
While not as punchy as last year’s eco-conscious Living Coral, this deep blue hue (think well-loved jeans, the sky at dusk or the burst of blueberries sprinkled on your porridge) ushers in an air of calm after a tumultuous end to the decade. Carefully selected after months spent combing the world for colour trends in society, culture, travel and more, Pantone's pick brings us full circle to the first Colour of the Year, Cerulean, chosen at the end of 1999. A zingier azure than Classic Blue, Cerulean represented not just the excitement of the Millennium but also offered an antidote to the anxieties preceding Y2K. Recognising that the global consciousness is currently feeling a similar sense of trepidation, the colour forecasters deemed a timeless colour is just what we need during this time of change. Here are a few ways to cocoon your bedroom in comforting Classic Blue (you can find all our blue bedding right here):
Dark Blue Bedroom Ideas:
Transcending styles and trends, Classic Blue (a few shades darker than aquamarine yet brighter than navy) is akin to black; it goes with everything. This boundless blue makes a reliable go-to for any interior scheme, whether soft and serene or punchy and loud; however, its inky hues are best for bringing swathes of serenity to your bedtime sanctuary, aiding concentration and helping to re-centre your thoughts.
A fresh lick of dark blue paint provides the perfect canvas for a snug and enveloping snooze space, and not just on the walls. If you're feeling brave, coating the ceiling as well can add an extra level of depth and luxury to a room, especially when paired with burnished gold accents and layers upon layers of sumptuous cushions and throws. Blue's connection to the great outdoors makes it a tempting choice for those who prefer a Scandi vibe too. Try it alongside cool grey walls, bucolic forest green bedroom accessories and rustic wooden finishes, topping it all off with the charming country cosiness of our Brushed Cotton Ticking Stripe French Blue Bedding. And remember, few colour combinations rival a blue and white bedroom scheme for true elegant simplicity.
Are you as smitten with Classic Blue as us? Or does it make you think more Pepsi can than peace? Let us know, we would love to hear from you!
