The Best House Plants for your Bedroom
Hello! We are The Little Botanical, and our lovely friends at Secret Linen Store have let us take over their blog to deliver you some important advice on selecting the perfect houseplants for your bedroom.
Firstly, a little about us, we have a lovely plant nursery in Sussex (our big brother brand Hills Plants), where we have been growing all sorts of wonderful indoor plants for over 40 years! So, we know a thing or two about plants.
We truly believe the positive experience of existing alongside nature in an interior space is hugely underrated and we want people to see the benefits of plants that are easy to care for to help reduce the constant stresses of modern life. There is no better place than a bedroom to add a plant or two to really benefit and enjoy what a little bit of greenery can do for you.
Here is our list of some of the best plants you could choose and just what they could do for you:
Sansevieria
More commonly known as the snake plant, these hard-leaved beauties come with many benefits. Often thought to bring luck to their owners, these plants can with stand a lot of neglect. The perfect green companion for a busy home! Some pretty comprehensive research from NASA no less, concluded that these plants can remove 107 dangerous pollutants from the air. These are therefore ideal for placing by mobile phones, TVs or computers and will keep producing oxygen whilst you sleep.
Lavender
Everybody knows that lavender is a “magic” herb and the perfect bedroom companion! During cooler months you can grow lavender indoors and benefit from this fragrant plant all day long. It is well researched that lavender can be useful when treating insomnia, depression, anxiety and restlessness. Rub the flowers gently to release the aroma, or pick a sprig or two and pop on your bedside table to ease you into a deep sleep.
Ficus Benjamina
With hundreds of luscious green leaves on every plant, a Ficus is a great small plant to add some texture and colour to your bedroom corner. The slender, shiny leaves are not only elegant in their style but serve a pretty important purpose. The Ficus is particularly good at filtering formaldehyde, xylene and toluene from the air. Place in a light spot in your bedroom and leave it there to settle and do its thing.
Aloe Vera
This gorgeous spiky succulent has increased in popularity due to its wide range of natural health properties. The leaves are full of a gel-like substance that contains numerous beneficial compounds that can be found in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. It likes a drink to keep its leaves full of the good stuff, but really that’s about all an Aloe needs to stay alive. It will grow quickly and create quite a feature.
Monstera Deliciosa
If it is a big green plant you need to fill a corner, then look no further than the super cool Monstera. The biggest trend for green plants with the very popular hashtag #monsteramonday taking over all plant lovers Instagrams once a week! These plants are easy to care for, grow quickly and have stunning big green leaves. If you are looking for a statement piece that is bang on trend, this is your plant!
