Fabulous Fabrics

We are dedicated to sourcing and selecting fabrics that create the most fabulous bedding products for you while minimising our impact on the planet and its people.

We pride ourselves on using natural fibres in our bed linen and accessories. In 2023, 97% of our range was made with natural materials.

We work hard to responsibly source our materials, using industry standards to verify supply chains and working closely with our amazing suppliers to reduce our environmental impact during production.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural fibre derived from the seeds of the cotton plant. It is soft and fluffy and is commonly spun into yarn or thread to make a soft, breathable textile. Cotton is known for its comfort, durability, and versatility, making it a perfect choice for bed linen.

Cotton allows air to circulate, helping to keep you cool in summer and warm in the winter. Its moisture-absorbing properties help wick away sweat and keep you dry overnight. Cotton offers a soft and comfortable feel against the skin, making it ideal for a good night’s sleep.

Cotton is a durable fibre that can withstand frequent washing without losing its softness or shape. Its bedding comes in various weaves and thread counts, allowing for different textures and finishes to suit personal preferences.

All our cotton bed linen is now responsibly sourced.

Organic Cotton

Using organic cotton has many benefits, including promoting soil health, reducing water usage, removing harmful chemicals, and supporting responsible farming practices.

Global Organic Textile Standard

We are certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard, which certifies and tracks organically grown cotton from the source to the final product.

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain.

It means we are saying yes to:

Strict requirements for textile production

Linen

Masters of FLAX FIBRE™

Linen has been at the heart of what we do since the very beginning, and we are very, very proud that all our linen is now Masters of FLAX FIBRE™ certified (formerly known as European Flax™).

This independent certification begins at the very start of the journey, in the flax fields of France, Belgium and the Netherlands. These regions are recognised as the world’s leading producers of flax fibre. (Three-quarters of the world’s production of long fibres come from France, Belgium and the Netherlands.) From fibre to finished fabric, the certification guarantees traceability and assures you that your bed linen comes from a respected European supply chain.

What the certification means

  • Grown in Europe: The flax for our linen is cultivated in Western Europe, where the soil, climate and generations of farming knowledge create the best conditions for flax growing.
  • Traceability: Every stage of production is audited and traced, so the fibre in your bed linen can be traced back to the fields where it was grown. Guaranteed traceability from fibre to finished product
  • Integrated crop management practices: Flax is generally grown without irrigation in these regions. Inputs such as fertilisers and plant protection products are used only when necessary and always with care, ensuring crop health while limiting impact. Seeds are certified GMO free.
  • Support for biodiversity: Flax is grown in rotation, typically every six to seven years on the same plot. This rotation supports soil health, reduces the need for chemicals, and helps encourage a diversity of plant and animal life on farms.
  • Zero waste: All parts of the flax plant are valued and nothing is wasted. All fibres, long and short, and all products (seeds and shives) are reused, for example as animal bedding.
  • Mechanical processing: 100% mechanical scutching, fibre extraction without water or solvents. Fibres are separated mechanically, without the need for water or solvents
  • Expert craftsmanship: Generations of farmers and scutchers bring their knowledge and skill to every step. This human expertise is a key part of the fabric’s quality.

Why we choose it

For you, this means bed linen that is naturally breathable, beautifully textured, and built to last for years of sleeping and washing. For us, it means working with a fibre that combines traditional craft with a certification that values traceability, integrated crop management practices and continuous improvement.

Our linen tells the story of European fields, family expertise and careful production, all woven into the fabric that you take home.

Feathers & Down

We source our feathers and down through the Duntrack® Traceability Standard, a framework that guarantees transparency and traceability across the entire supply chain. This standard ensures that the feathers and down, which are by-products of the food industry, are responsibly sourced. Every stage, from the source to the final product, is audited and certified to maintain high accountability standards throughout the process.

  1. Ethical Treatment of Animals: The Duntrack® Traceability Standard ensures that down and feathers are sourced from suppliers that adhere to high standards of animal welfare. This includes preventing practices like live-plucking and force-feeding, promoting humane treatment throughout the supply chain. The feathers and down are a by-product of the food industry.
  2. Supply Chain Transparency: The standard requires detailed documentation and tracking of down and feathers from farm to finished product. This transparency helps verify that ethical and responsible practices are followed at each stage, providing accountability and traceability
  3. Environmental Impacts: The Duntrack® Traceability Standard promotes environmentally responsible practices in the sourcing and processing of down and feathers. This includes responsible farming practices, reducing environmental impact and improved waste management.
  4. Quality Assurance: By using this certification, we can be assured  that the down and feathers used in our products meet specific quality criteria. Resulting in products that perform better and last longer.

We don’t just stop there with our bedding, the fabric used for casing our feather-filled products have been tested to check it complies with industry standards and has earned a NOMITE classification from the European Down and Feather Association (EDFA). This means the case is so tightly woven dust mites cannot penetrate the surface, making our feather and down bedding safe for allergy sufferers too.

Our bedding supplier is also a member of the European Down & Feather Association.

Wool

Our wool bedding range is made in Yorkshire and use only the finest and most carefully sourced 100% British wool.

Wool provides natural temperature regulation, moisture-wicking, and hypoallergenic comfort for a restful night's sleep.

Animal Welfare

Our animal welfare policy outlines our commitment to promoting the humane treatment of animals and ensuring that all our activities are aligned with ethical and responsible animal care practices.

Freedom from hunger and thirst

Animals must have access to clean water and a diet that meets their nutritional needs.

Freedom from discomfort

Animals must have a suitable environment to live in, including shelter and a comfortable resting area.

Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

Animals must be protected from physical and medical harm and provided with appropriate veterinary care.

Freedom to express normal behaviour

Animals must be allowed to engage in natural behaviours that are important for their well-being, such as social interaction and exercise.

Freedom from fear and distress

Animals must be protected from situations that cause them to experience anxiety, stress, or fear.

As a business, we take the well-being of animals seriously and recognise the importance of treating them with kindness, respect, and compassion. We use a few animal-derived products within our range which include goose and duck feathers, down and wool. We are committed to sourcing materials for our products where there is no risk to animal welfare, neither during the life of the animal nor during production.

We work alongside, and ask all suppliers to source raw materials from, suppliers with animals that have been raised, transported and slaughtered under established higher animal welfare standard where the Five Freedoms are practiced.
