We’ve been busy bees here at our Bed Quarters recently… Not just launching lots of exciting new collections, but working hard to make sure that we are doing some good for our planet whilst we share the joy of beautiful bedrooms.
We’re very much at the start of our eco journey, but we wanted to let you know some of the exciting changes we’ve been making to become an even more sustainable brand.
Possibly some of our biggest changes have been our lovely packaging. We have always worked hard to make sure that our parcels feel like a real gift when they arrive on your doorstep, but we don’t want that to be at the expense of our planet, so we’ve come up with a few compromises.
Thinner Unbranded Ribbon
Your parcels are still wrapped up in a lovely ribbon, but with a slight difference. We have made our ribbon thinner so we are using less of it, and it’s now unbranded so that you can reuse it at home. Use it to wrap up a gift, as a crafting project or even a hair tie! The point is, it can be reused which we think is super.
The Teabag has Gone (We're Sorry)
We absolutely loved giving you all the gift of a cuppa when your new bedding arrived, but after many hours of parcel chats and umming and ahing, we decided in the end that it was best to say goodbye to our tea bags to avoid waste. We also know not everyone is a fan of a herbal cuppa... (we're looking at you coffee drinkers). All jokes aside, we know a lot of you loved the teabag and will be sad to see it go, but we feel like it’s for the best.
Paper Partnerships Removed
Now and again we like to share with you what our partner brands are up to, but again we decided that we didn’t need to create more waste, even if they could be recycled. We now pop these things onto our website inspiration section so you won’t miss out on any exciting, exclusive offers. We often send these out in our emails, so do make sure you sign up to our mailing list so you don’t miss out.
The only insert you will get in your parcel from time to time is our fabulous newspaper which is full of helpful information and some fun bits too, which is always printed on 100% recyclable paper. We also understand that you might not want the newspaper, or you might have already been given one in a previous order, so we are actively working on our website right now to give our customers the option to opt out of this. We hope that will be live for you all very, very soon.
We make sure that all of our parcels are safely secured with recyclable paper tape and quite often, if we have used boxes that are still in good condition, we will reuse these so they get more than one use. We have also started to trial paper packaging for our bed linens which we hope to roll out across more of our collections very soon.
We pride ourselves very much on the quality of our fabrics, and we’ve worked hard to ensure that the quality doesn’t come at any expense of sustainability. First and foremost, we only work with factories who are Oeko-Tex 100 certified, so you know that there will never ever be any harmful substances in our fabrics. We’ve also started introducing sustainably sourced cotton into many of our new collections.
Watch this space for more happy news about ethically and sustainably sourced fabrics, we could talk for days and days on this…
This is really just a drop in the ocean of everything we have already done and are trying to achieve here. There is so so much that we have in the pipeline and we really want to share our journey with you, so keep your eyes peeled on our website and emails over the next few months and follow our eco journey. We promise that we are doing everything possible to have a positive impact on our planet.
