Winter Duvet FAQs

What bed linen is best for winter?

To help keep you feeling warm, we recommend pairing your winter duvet with a brushed cotton bedding set. Brushed cotton bedding is perfect for cuddling up on chilly winter nights, as the brushed finish raises the fluffy cotton fibres, allowing them to trap warm air and keep you extra snug.

To style your winter duvet, why not layer it with quilts and blankets in complementary warm colours? Because we love dressing our beds, we’ve put together a few ways to style your bedding and keep snug all winter long with our winter style guide.

What is the warmest tog rating for a duvet?

A 13.5 tog duvet is usually our winter go-to. The highest and warmest tog rating commonly available is 15, providing the maximum level of insulation and is specifically designed for very cold winter nights or for people who get cold easily.

To learn more about which duvet tog ratings to use for each season, read our duvet tog guide.

Can a duvet be warm but still lightweight?

A duvet’s warmth relates to its tog rating - it’s all about the insulation that it provides, not weight. Choosing a winter duvet with a natural filling, such as feathers, goose, or duck down, gives you the best of both worlds. These fillings are incredibly insulating, light, and lofty, so you can achieve a high tog rating without feeling weighed down.

To learn more about duvet fillings, read our duvet filling guide.

How do I care for my high-tog duvet?

Washing a winter duvet can seem like a daunting task, but it’s pretty simple. We recommend taking it to a laundrette to use their large-capacity machines, as this gives the duvet plenty of room to move and get properly clean.

For minor cleaning jobs, like if you spill a cuppa on your duvet, it’s best to spot-clean the patch with a damp cloth and some warm, soapy water rather than washing the whole thing. Make sure the area is thoroughly dry before you pop it back on the bed by using the cool setting on a hair dryer.
