Fully Lined Curtains FAQs

How to hang lined curtains

Hanging lined curtains is easier than you might think, and once they’re up, oh my, the difference they make…

If you’ve got pencil pleats, start by pulling the strings at the top to gather the fabric until it matches your curtain pole or track width. Then pop in your curtain hooks and attach them to your pole rings or gliders.

Loop tops? Even simpler. Just thread the pole through the loops and hang them up. No hooks, no head-scratching.

Once they’re up, give them a little shake and a gentle tug to help them fall just right. Voilà – curtains that hang like a dream.

Still unsure? Our curtain hanging guide is here to help.

What does fully lined curtains mean?

Fully lined curtains are exactly what they say on the tin. They’ve got a full extra layer of fabric stitched neatly to the back.

This clever lining adds thickness, which means better insulation, less light sneaking in, and a lovely, full drape. It also helps protect your beautiful curtain fabric from fading in bright sunlight – win-win.

How to clean curtains

Curtains looking a little dusty? No need to panic.

Start with a quick vacuum using the upholstery attachment for a fast and easy way to lift off surface dust and keep things fresh. If you spot any little marks, a damp cloth and gentle dab usually does the trick.

If your curtains are machine washable (check the label), just follow the instructions and wash them as you would your bed linen. For anything more delicate or lined with blackout fabric, it’s best to hand them over to the professionals for the TLC they deserve.

How To Care For Curtains

A little love goes a long way with curtains. Keep them looking lovely by giving them a regular shake and the occasional hoover to whisk away dust.

Draw them open and closed gently (no tug-of-war, please), and avoid getting them too close to steamy windows or radiators. For linen and other natural fabrics, creases are all part of the charm but a steamer will smooth things out if you fancy a sleeker look.

If you ever need to wash them, just check the care label first – we’ve made it nice and easy to follow. Plus, we’ve got a curtain care guide with even more tips and tricks.  And remember, a little care now means your curtains will enjoy years of soft, swishy goodness to come.

What is the difference between lined and blackout curtains?

The main difference is light control. Fully lined curtains have a cotton lining that filters light and protects the fabric, but they won't block the sun completely. Blackout curtains use a specially woven fabric to stop light passing through, making them the better choice for bedrooms.

Our guide on which curtains are best for you explains this in more detail.

How do I measure them?

To ensure your curtains look generous and luxurious, you need to measure the width of your curtain pole or track, not the window frame itself. You also need to decide on your drop ( we love the look of curtains that just kiss the floor.) Pop over to our curtains advice page for a full step-by-step guide.
