Duvet FAQs: How to Choose a Duvet Just For You

Whether you love the weight and crunch of a 100% feather duvet, or like to snuggle under a light, cloud-like layer, we are confident that we have the perfect duvet for you here.

Browse our duvet and pillow set collection, take a look through our buying guides and see below for some frequently asked questions.

What is a duvet?

The term 'duvet' refers to the soft, filled quilt that you sleep under, which you then pop inside one of our beautiful duvet covers. We offer a brilliant range of duvets in different warmth levels (togs) and fillings to suit everyone.

What is the difference between feather and down?

Feathers

Feathers are larger, heavier, and have quills. Goose feathers are naturally softer than duck feathers and have a more defined curl, giving a loftier, more luxurious result - that’s why goose bedding is typically more expensive than duck.

If you prefer your duvet to have some weight, choose feather and down. The down content will keep the duvet soft, while the feathers provide the typical feathery feel.

Down

Down or down feathers are super-soft clusters found beneath the quills. Softer and loftier than quilled feathers, they are better for keeping warmth in and cold out. The higher the down content, the lighter and softer the duvet - hence these tend to be a little pricier.

What duvet tog should I choose?

Our togs start at 2.5 (perfect for the summer months) and go as high as 15 for cold winters. We offer an All Seasons option in all fillings, which has a 4.5-tog and a 9-tog duvet, that can be used separately or together to make a 13.5-tog.

As a guide, we recommend the following.

  • 2.5 tog - light summer use
  • 4.5 tog - summer use
  • 9 tog - spring/autumn use
  • 10.5 tog – cooler spring/autumn months
  • 13.5 tog – winter months
  • 15 tog – colder winter months
  • All Seasons (4.5 and 9 tog) - all year-round comfort

How do I wash my duvet?

While it might seem like a big job, washing your duvet is quite simple. We recommend taking it to a launderette to use their large-capacity machines, which gives it plenty of room. Always make sure it's completely dry before you use it again to keep the filling lovely and fluffy.

Read our guide to for washing duvets for more information.

What size duvet do I need?

Getting a great night’s sleep isn’t a luxury… It's essential for keeping us healthy, happy and living life to its fullest.

It’s important to consider what size of duvet we need for our bed. But, with so many different measurements, this isn’t always a straightforward task.

Having trouble deciding which size of duvet to buy? Read our duvets, pillows and mattress topper size guide, so you can make an informed decision.
