Finding The Perfect Pillow

Pillows can be a bit of a minefield. Soft, firm, bouncy, flat, one or two? We offer a range of pillow choices - something for everyone - but it can be a bit daunting to choose the right one.

The main things to consider when choosing your pillow are the position in which you sleep and how you like your pillow to feel. Read ahead to get some answers to some frequently asked questions.

If you sleep on your front or back, you will probably be more comfortable with a pillow with a medium fill, whereas if you're a side sleeper, you might prefer a firmer pillow.

Or why not go with one of each so you can mix and match to create your perfect pillow partners?

Down is generally seen as the luxurious filling choice for pillows, so luxury hotels will tend to supply pillows containing this super squishy and cloud-like filling.

Here at Secret Linen Store, we have 100% goose or duck down pillows and an 80% duck down option for those on a bit more budget. Either will add a spot of luxury to your snooze time.

Pillows should be replaced every 1 to 2 years or when they lose shape and support. Over time, pillows accumulate dust mites, allergens, and become misshapen, leading to discomfort and poor sleep quality. You can read more about caring for your bedding in our guide.

Hypoallergenic pillows are made with materials that resist allergens such as dust mites, mould, and pet dander. They are a great choice for individuals with allergies or asthma, as they help reduce the risk of triggering allergic reactions.

All the case fabrics used for our Secret Linen Store pillows are certified to meet the NOMITE® standard, and all our feather and down products are NOMITE® certified and labelled, which means they are suitable for use by those who suffer from asthma or dust mite allergies.

All our pillows can be washed, although we recommend following the instructions on the label carefully to avoid damaging your pillow.

Pillows should be washed twice yearly to keep them fresh, hygienic, and free from dust mites. Many cotton and down pillows can be put in the washing machine, but always refer to the care instructions first. This is a quick and easy way of washing pillows. The only down-side to washing your pillows at home is that they can take a long time to dry.
