Linen Curtains FAQs

Can I wash them at home?

While some unlined linens can be washed, we often recommend professional cleaning for lined curtains to ensure the different fabrics don't shrink at different rates. Please always check the label on your specific items.

If caring for your linen curtains at home, always use a gentle detergent and wash on a low temperature for optimal results. Our curtains can be tumble-dried, however they can pick up a crease or two in the process. Not to worry though - they’re a doddle to iron so they’ll be back to crisp and wrinkle-free in no time at all.

You can find more details in our caring for curtains guide.

How To Clean Curtains While Hanging

Sometimes your curtains just need a little freshen-up without the full wash day drama.

Start with a trusty vacuum cleaner and use the upholstery attachment (the one with the soft brushy bit) to gently remove dust and fluff. Work from top to bottom, and don’t forget the hems – they tend to gather a bit of dust from the floor.

For any little marks or stains, a soft, damp cloth and a gentle dab should do the trick. Just be sure to test a hidden corner first, especially with our lovely natural fabrics.

And if you’ve got a steamer, even better. It’s brilliant for both smoothing creases and giving your curtains a quick refresh without taking them down. Curtain spa day? Yes, please.

Benefits Of Linen Curtains

Oh, where do we begin? Linen curtains are basically the best kind of clever and beautiful.

They’ve got that relaxed, lived-in loveliness that just gets better with age. Think soft drapes, gentle texture, and oodles of charm. But they’re not just pretty to look at. Linen is a natural wonder – breathable, strong, and great at keeping your room feeling just right, whatever the season.

Let in the light with a sheer linen curtain or go for lined linen for a bit more privacy. They hang like a dream and bring instant calm to any space (yes, even the spare room that’s been a bit neglected).

In short, linen curtains are timeless, low-fuss, and just downright dreamy. What’s not to love?

Are linen curtains hard to hang?

Not at all. Most of our curtains come with either a loop-top or pencil pleat header. Hanging loop-top curtains couldn’t be easier, simply slide the fabric loops over your curtain pole. With a pencil pleat header,  just pull the cords to gather the curtain to your desired width and insert the hooks. It is a satisfying job that gives a professional finish.

We have a guide on how to hang curtains to help you get the perfect finish.

How do I measure for linen curtains?

Whether you are hanging them on a pole or a track, getting the measurements right is the first step to a beautiful window. We recommend measuring the width of the fixture, not the window, and deciding on your drop length before you buy.

How to Style Linen Curtains

When styling linen curtains, opt for bedding sets in soft, earthy tones like ivory or sand to complement the linen’s natural texture. Keep it airy by allowing them to drape gracefully, with gentle folds that create a relaxed atmosphere. Pair them with rustic wooden or wrought iron rods for a timeless look.

Due to the light, single-lined fabric, natural light filters beautifully through our linen curtains, making them ideal for darker spaces that need a little extra brightness.

For a final touch, why not incorporate indoor plants to enhance the organic feel of this natural fabric? This will give your space an inviting, botanical feel with a sprinkle of understated luxury.
