How We Make Our Quilts & Why They Sell Out

Jolene 100% Cotton Quilted Throw

If you have been keeping an eye on our new arrivals, you may have noticed a slight pattern. Our collection of quilts and bedspreads arrives, looks beautiful on the site, and then, almost as quickly as they appeared, they are gone. We are always super grateful that you love them as much as we do, but we know it can be frustrating when the one you have your eye on disappears.

Making a high-quality quilt is a labour of love that takes time, patience, and a lot of skill. We wanted to pull back the curtain and share exactly what goes into creating them, answering your questions on what makes a good quilt and explaining why we think they are worth the wait.

What is a Quilt?

Before we dive into the making process, we are often asked, “What is a quilt?” and how it differs from other bedding. A quilt is a specific type of bed covering composed of three layers:

  • a woven top fabric

  • a layer of filling (batting)

  • a woven back

These three layers are then stitched together, often in a decorative pattern, which is where the term "quilting" comes from.

It differs from a duvet, which is the thick, fluffy insert you sleep under, and serves a slightly different purpose than lighter throws or softer blankets. Our quilts are designed to be versatile, decorative layers that add warmth, texture, and a beautiful finish to your bed, sitting on top of your duvet or acting as a standalone cover on warmer nights.

How They Are Made

Every single one of our quilts is dreamed up by our team here in the UK and brought to life by our incredible partners in Portugal. The secret to what makes a good quilt lies in the combination of high-quality materials and expert craftsmanship.

Crafted Slowly, Made Beautifully

This attention to detail during the manufacturing process is why we can’t simply rush out a new batch overnight. Good things take time, and we would never compromise on quality to expedite the process.

Why They Are Worth the Investment

When deciding which quilt to buy, it is essential to consider the materials. We prioritise natural fibres and have moved away from synthetics because they feel better and last longer. A cheap synthetic quilt might look okay for a few weeks, but it won't have the same breathability or the same excellent drape as one made from 100% cotton or linen.

Our quilts are designed to be cherished heirlooms for generations to come. They are substantial enough to provide real warmth but breathable enough to use all year round. The stitching isn't just decorative - it keeps the filling evenly distributed, so you never get lumpy patches. It is this commitment to quality that means once you have one on your bed, you’ll understand why they are so popular.

Finding Your Perfect Match

So, what is the best quilt for you? It really depends on how you like to sleep and the style of your room.

If you are looking for versatility, you might wonder what the best lightweight quilt for summer is. We recommend looking for our 100% cotton options with a lighter wadding. These act as a brilliant alternative to a duvet when the weather gets hot, providing a comforting feeling of being covered without the weight.

For the colder months, our quilts act as an essential extra layer of insulation. Layering a quilt over your duvet cover traps warm air and keeps you toasty all night long. Additionally, they are the easiest way to update your bedroom style instantly.

We are working hard to keep our shelves stocked with these beautiful pieces. If you see one you love, we recommend snapping it up.
