Choosing the right size duvet, pillow, and mattress topper is essential for a snug night's sleep. Before you invest in your new bedding, it’s important to check that it’s the right size. At Secret Linen Store, we’ve created handy size guides so you can check the exact measurements that you need, ensuring your new bedding fits and feels just right. 

The measurements for all our filled bedding items are for the outer cotton casing. Depending on the chosen tog and filling, the final product size may be ever so slightly different from the listed size. The thicker the fabric or the more filling we pop inside, the plumper it will get.

Before you pick out your new bedding, you’ll need to know the size of your bed. There’s nothing worse than picking out bedding that’s too short and doesn’t cover your bed properly.

Measure from the headboard to the bottom of the bed, then across the middle to get the length and width of the bed, matching the measurements below. Keep in mind that your bed measurement isn’t the same as your duvet size (more on this later).

With your measurements, you can see which size category your bed falls into. These are standard UK bed sizes.

Choosing the right pillow size is more important than you think. The right size supports your neck and maintains your posture as you sleep, helping you avoid any pesky morning aches or pains.

Standard pillows are the most common pillow size and fit inside any standard pillow case, while super king pillows are designed to be larger to accommodate the added width of king-size beds, creating a balanced look. The ideal duvet is slightly longer and wider than your mattress, providing full coverage and preventing chilly feet during the night. 

If you share a bed with a partner who’s a bit of a duvet hog, consider sizing up. For example, you could choose a king-sized duvet for a double bed, which adds a little extra width and helps keep you both snug throughout the night.

Your mattress topper and protector need to be perfectly matched in size to your mattress to prevent sliding, stretching, and general discomfort.

A mattress topper is a thicker, cushioned layer that sits on the top of your mattress, enhancing its comfort and support, while a mattress protector is a thin, waterproof, and breathable layer that covers your mattress, providing a barrier against spills, stains, and allergens.

Using them together provides the ultimate combination of comfort and protection. We recommend placing your topper directly on your mattress, with the protector on top, protecting both your mattress and topper.
