Country Style Curtains FAQs

What patterns work best for a country style home?

You can't beat the classics. Gingham and checks are fantastic for adding that traditional cottage feel, while stripes are brilliant for a cleaner, modern farmhouse look. We also love plain linen curtains in earthy tones like olive green or warm clay, which bring a rustic feel to the room.

Should I opt for lined or unlined curtains to achieve a farmhouse look?

It depends on the room. Farmhouses (and country-style homes) can sometimes be a little draughty, so fully-lined curtains are excellent for keeping the warmth in and creating a cosy atmosphere in the evening. However, if you want to maximise light in a smaller cottage window, unlined linen is beautiful.

How do I measure curtains in an older house?

Older houses often have quirky windows that aren't perfectly square. We always recommend measuring the curtain pole or track rather than the window frame itself. Measure in three places for the drop just to be sure.

Our measuring guide covers all the tricky bits to help you get it right.
