Molly Meets Laura Jackson

Well now, this was a Tuesday worth getting out of bed for.

If you’re going to talk about bedtime, and all the joy that comes with it - you may as well do it properly. With someone who gets it. Meet Laura Jackson.

Laura, for those that don’t know her, is the co-founder of Glassette, a business dedicated to the pursuit of staying in. Not in a dull, socks-on-the-radiator way, but in the fill-your-house-with-colour, design-your-home-like-you-mean-it sort of way. Our kind of store, for sure.

We’ve made something very exciting together - Postcards from Home, a new collaboration full of colour, comfort and gentle joy. Glassette’s style with the quality you know and love from us.

To celebrate and dress rooms with the collection in real life, I ran over to Glassette for a day of playing with pillows and chatting about the small, quiet luxuries of life indoors.

Here’s some of what we talked about - between tea and sharing tips for keeping slugs off of your veg patch and laying tables for a very colourful lunch.

What does a good night’s sleep look like?

Laura loves loves her sleep. Eight hours for her, and if she can squeeze in a little more time in bed, even better. She (just like me) says that her bed is her favourite place. I’m tucked up by 10pm most nights and up with the birds. Early morning is my favourite time of the whole day. Laura says she’s up for a slower start - and as a mum of three, she loves the treat of a lie-in.

Do you have a side of the bed?

Laura has her side of the bed at home (although, by chance, I was sat on her side), but when she’s away and has the bed to herself, she sleeps right in the middle.

Same here - although it can change when travelling. I don’t like sleeping by a window, even in a hotel room. Not quite sure why. Makes little sense, but somehow, I feel safer.

What’s your bedtime routine?

Laura’s checking on her children before reading — her phone in a different room, which is a great example for us all. I need to follow suit. I’m terrible and read the news before lights out. Not a good way to switch off, but it’s the only quiet time I get to keep up with the world.

And the first thing in the morning?

Tea. Straight away.

Yes please, for us both. I absolutely cannot function without a cup of tea first thing, whatever time I’m up. Laura’s the same — a cup of Yorkshire, strong, with milk, no sugar. I’m oat milk and a half-spoon of sugar. Not sure how a day could begin without a cup of tea. It’s the only way.

What lives on your bedside table?

Books — and lots of them. Laura said it’s slightly ridiculous how many she has stacked up. A lamp, a digital alarm clock, and a rotating pile of great stuff to read.

Mine’s a little more chaotic (my partner calls it a charity shop… eeek), but we agreed — a bit of clutter should be allowed. It makes us feel right at home.

How often do you wash your bed sheets?

Laura’s a once-a-week sheet washer — sometimes every ten days if life gets in the way.

As a rule, I’m washing once a fortnight, which is what was recommended by our handy Clean Sheets Calculator (unless the weather’s warm — then it’s weekly for me too).
