Have you heard of our friends Asquith?

We discovered their beautiful brand last year, and we've been obsessed ever since. Founder Alice has created a beautiful collection of ethically made active-wear. Honestly, you won't find comfier yoga leggings or softer t-shirts.

Molly met Alice to chit chat about her home, her work and bedtimes (of course!).

  • Describe what you do in 3 words

Creative. Director. Asquith

  • What makes you get out of bed in the morning?

Everything! The day ahead. I love mornings and am a real morning person. Always have been. Thankfully.

  • What does a typical Monday morning look like for you?

Up 6am. Shower. Meditate (I practice Vedic meditation and meditate twice daily) Yoga stretches whilst listening to Shaun Keaveny on Radio 6; great music, funny man. Breakfast whilst checking emails. I have an office at home so my commute is about 30 seconds! (I justify some sort of class at lunchtime instead of commuting; yoga, Pilates, Barre, TRX).

  • What was the appeal of yoga for you?

I wasn’t sporty at school, hated sport, and I loved yoga initially because it was 100% non-competitive. It helps me stay calm and switch off. As well as keeping me agile.

  • And how did your love of yoga result in Asquith… how was your business born?

Long story but I’ll cut it short! Designing clothing is in my family. I started practicing yoga about 20 years ago and the only clothing to wear was synthetic sportswear, and I hate synthetic fabrics, especially for yoga... it didn’t make sense to me.
I saw a gap in the market, quit my job in television and designed my first collection of all natural sportswear that was also great for living in. It was pretty unusual then.

  • How would you describe your bedroom style?

Calm, fresh, uncluttered. Except for black and white family photos.

  • Tell us about your favourite things in your home.

A beautiful abstract painting over the fireplace in my sitting room which I’ve grown up with, painted by a childhood friend. It has so many beautiful colours in. I based the SS17 collection colours on some of these colours.

  • My father’s sideboard; 1960’s and very elegant.

Two vintage armchairs in a bright black and white stripe fabric. My sitting room was going to be calm, neutrals, full of plants then I saw these chairs and well, that plan went out of the window.

  • Are you all about long lie-ins or up with the lark?

Up early. I hate wasting the day. I even get up early on weekends because I want to make the most of the days and, thankfully, my partner is the same; he and I love to get up, get on, get out!

  • Do you have a bedtime ritual, can you share it with us?

I switch off my computer and mobile by 9pm. If I’m at home for the night I’ll read the latest Vogue whilst listening to Jo Whiley (who I think is superb) or read recipe books (as I love cooking) and I'll be drinking some sort of Pukka Tea. I’m a total devotee.
I always go to bed and read for at least 45 mins. I’m out a fair bit during the week for work events, cinema, theatre, art shows, so if I’m in I love this ritual.

  • You’re off for a weekend camping… What one luxury would you take from your bedroom? Why.

Camping! Eek. Not something I’m crazy about. I love the great outdoors but enjoy my comforts and a good, hot shower too much… I’d take a bottle of Obsession perfume (my favourite perfume) to cover the delicate ‘camping’ scents! It immediately makes me feel ready to go.

  • Clean sheet Friday or clean sheet Sunday? (Harriet and I disagree)

Whenever I feel like it… no set day!

  • If you could only ever have one thing for breakfast, what would it be?

A toss up between eggs or porridge.

  • Who would you invite to your dream midnight feast? (No limitations… they can be from the past, from fiction, etc, etc…)

My musical heroes; Prince. David Bowie. Elvis. Jim Hendrix, George Michael. I think they’d all get on famously. I’d be in Heaven. Sadly, literally, as they’re all no longer with us.

  • How do you like your eggs in the morning?

Scrambled, poached or boiled. And as a treat, with Vogel toast. (I try not to eat bread too much).

  • Tell us a secret?

I’m a real healthy eater but I absolutely love childhood food; crisps, sausages, fish fingers.

  • Who should Molly meet next?

Oprah Winfrey and find out if she really is going to run for President of the US.

Your Dream Bedtime…

On my bed… White 100% Linen Bedding Set. It wouldn’t matter if it creased and it would just get softer and softer.

My bedroom smells like… I always have a scented candle burning (my little treat to myself) and generally lilies. Currently I’m loving an Assouline candle which is currently overpowering the scent of the lillies!

Before bed I’ll read… Currently reading Commonwealth by Ann Patchett. Intriguing. Or I love Sunday newspaper supplements in bed, particularly Stella magazine.

I’ll be dreaming of… Work probably…but that’s ok. It makes me happy.
