Have you ever had that feeling when staying at a hotel... you're so excited that you almost go giddy. The Artist Residence will give you that feeling. When we popped into their London hotel for a snoop around we couldn't stop gasping and gawking (their interior is amazing!).

Each hotel is decorated with unique pieces of art, from local artists (hence the name) and we wanted to take most of it home with us... they have hotels in London, Cornwall and Brighton, so why not toddle off for a little stay-cation this summer?

I had a little chinwag with Charlie who (with partner Justin) is the brains behind the hotel...

  • Tell us what you do in 3 words.

Hotelier. Restaurateur. Designer.

  • What makes you get out of bed in the morning?

Every day there is an exciting project!

  • What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?

Malcolm Gladwell’s theory of 10,000 hours – nearly there…

  • We love the hotels interiors. How did you decide on what each would look like?

Thank you! The location is so important to us – we have designed all of our interiors to feel part of the location and environment - but with a bit of a pizzazz!

Brighton feels very hip and edgy whereas West London is more ‘polished’ and has that element of luxe. We are very unconventional in that we don’t have mood boards as such – although our Pinterest boards become out of control with ideas.

We love finding or designing unique pieces and then starting from there. I suppose you can say our interiors are often designed around objects such as interesting furniture or reclaimed materials or pieces of art that we have found.

  • What’s your interior style like at home?

Unlike our hotels, which are all historic buildings, we live in a 50’s new build so didn’t have the luxury of any original features. I suppose you could describe it as modern, bohemian and eclectic.

  • If you had to choose one thing to pop in your pocket and take home from one of the hotels, what would it be?

Having freshly laundered sheets every day – there’s nothing better! Oh, and the Kilim sofa that sits by the fire at our London location.

  • What's your secrets to a good night's sleep?

I love pillow spray, it’s so calming and sends me straight to sleep.

  • You can only have one thing for breakfast for the rest of time, what do you have?

I love the avocado, chilli and rye at our London restaurant Cambridge Street Kitchen!

  • Instagram or Twitter?

Instagram for sure. I am much more of a visuals person.

  • What's on your bed today?

Dark grey linen sheets – I think it really suits the moody and eclectic interiors of our bedroom and our Scottish chequered carpet.

  • Do you have any bedtime rituals?

Can’t beat an episode of Game of Thrones!

  • After a long day we always get straight into our comfies. What are yours?

A big baggy jumper and a pair of artist illustrated Anthropologie pyjamas.

  • Flat sheet or fitted?

Fitted for home, flat sheets for hotels.

  • Who would you invite over for your dream midnight feast? (dead / alive / animal?)

Malcolm Gladwell, Tom Hiddleston, Tim & Kit Kemp, Robin Hutson, Nick Jones, Alex Calderwood and Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch from Roman and Williams

  • Clean sheet Friday or clean sheet Sunday? (Harriet and I disagree)

Difficult one… clean sheet Sunday!

  • You’re off for a weekend camping… What one luxury would you take from your bedroom and why?

My bed.

  • Tell us a secret?

You don’t need to train as an interior designer. Follow your instincts and experiment, and be prepared to make mistakes.

  • Who should Molly meet next?

The Pig... We love their hotels!
