I’m sure it comes as no surprise that as bed linen specialists we are obsessed with beautiful beds. We have looked through the weird and the wonderful to let you in on our favourite statement beds and undeniably some are far more unique than others. Let us know in the comments which you would love to be your bedroom centrepiece.
Inspirit, Scaffolding, King £1795 Something of a statement isn’t it? Fancy some scaffolding in your bedroom? I came across Inspirit through Not On The High Street and just loved how they take such industrial materials and wave their designer wands to make something gentle and elegant. This is such a unique take on the classic iron bedstead and when paired with soft greys and duck egg it adds a real feminine touch to the whole room. This wouldn’t just be a bed, it truly is a statement and perhaps although not to everybody’s taste, I don’t think anybody could argue that it isn’t interesting?
Made.com, Alana, £399 It almost feels like you can’t turn your head without catching a glimpse of copper, it has most certainly has made an entrance into the world of interiors. Luckily Made.com have taken note and made the copper lover’s dream – The Alana. This bed creates an impression without dominating the room, leaving space for other statement furniture pieces. The pairing of copper and grey linen is most certainly a match made in interiors heaven!
Get Laid Beds, Classic Four Poster, £433
The most opulent and the original statement is the four-poster. I always get giddy arriving to a hotel and being greeted by a huge four-poster, however for home the upkeep and inevitable dust is also enough to make me giddy (not in a good way!). This undraped, bare four poster creates a quasi-enclosed space andI love the grey painted wood, allowing you to play with colour with your linen, cushions and throws.
Button and Sprung, Eliza, from £695 Adding an upholstered bed into a room can change it from your everyday bedroom to a master suite. Button and Sprung allow you to completely personalise the bed buying experience as you can get any bed made in any fabric and they give you the choice of 48 fabrics just to get you started. My favourite has to be the Eliza, the headboard curves so slightly without overpowering the bed and I can just imagine it in so many prints and patterns to become a true showstopper. Our Relaxed Denim Dove Grey bedlinen (as shown) is the perfect compliment here.
Anthropologie, Italian Campaign Canopy, £1500
A statement bed doesn’t always have to be bold and bright, this minimalistic canopy bed offers the elegance of a four poster, again without the canopy and the added durability of a wrought iron frame. The ring on top almost feels like a halo across the bed and can be customised with your own drapes allowing an easy change of style without a change of furniture. This bed screams out for layers and layers of bedding. The frame itself is so rigid making it even more inviting for laundered throws, hundreds of pillows and cushions and the softest cotton bedding.
Last year I spent a weekend in France staying in the upper city within Boulogne-sur-Mer, a beautiful old town perched high above the new city, girded by 13th century walls. The B&B we stayed in was extremely quaint with a truly French inspired décor and homemade pastries available at all hours of the day, it was basically heaven! The owner had made all the headboards in every room from old shutters, painted and then distressed for a truly shabby chic finish. I don’t think you can get anything that makes much more of a statement in your bedroom than something that you have truly nurtured and made yourself. There are so many ways to create a really bold DIY headboard, I've put together some of my favourites on Pinterest so pop over and take a look.
Out There Interiors, Saskia, King £1344
We'll go out with a bang and finish with something quite dramatic! This huge bedstead from Out There Interiors certainly fits the bill. The huge silver headboard is a real head turner and we think it deserves high quality crisp white bed linen to match its grandeur. Silver might not be to everyone’s taste but if you’re looking for a statement a French bedstead with metallic paint isn’t going to disappoint.
