How To Choose The Right Pillow

Finding the perfect pillow is a personal choice and finding the right one can improve your sleep in an instant.

There's a lot to consider when it comes to picking your pillow... how many you'll have, how you'll sleep and what filling to choose.

We're here to help with our guide to picking the perfect pillow for you...

When's the right time for a replacement?

The chances are if you're even thinking that you might need a new pillow, you probably do.

Our pillows can be the quickest way to improve our quality of sleep, and having a pillow that's gone flatter or lumpy could leave us with real aches, pains and a bad night's sleep.

Most good quality pillows with high quality fillings should last a few years. If you suffer from allergies, it might be worth replacing your pillows more frequently and if you invest in higher quality fillings your pillow will last longer.

If you want to know a little more detail on when to replace your duvets and pillows, we've written a whole blog post here.

How do you sleep?

Did you know that the way you toss and turn in the night will change the support you need from your pillow? There's no one size fits all when it comes to bedding so here's a little guidance...

Stomach Sleepers

If you love to sleep on your stomach, you'll need a pillow that feels soft against your face. This sleeping position requires little back support, so a medium filled pillow is the perfect choice.

Side Sleepers

When you snooze on your side you need to make sure you're supporting your neck and back. Most of the time side sleepers will be more likely to suffer from aches and pains in the morning due to their pillow being too soft. A firm pillow will support your neck all night long.

Back Sleepers

If you sleep flat on your back, then the decision is really based on personal preference. Your back should be well supported by your mattress so how plump your pillow is will depend on what you prefer.

Decide on your filling

The filling of your pillow will also affect the quality of your sleep, and as our pillow choice is personal what one person loves another might loathe.

You'll need to decide whether you want a naturally filled pillow or a hollowfibre pillow.

Natural Fillings

Natural fillings feel lovely and soft against your head and should stay plumper for longer.

For a really luxurious treat we always recommend a down pillow. Down is the fluffiest part of the feather and will feel the softest, with no crunch from the feathers and no chance of lumping.

We have choices of either our Grand Goose - 100% Goose Down pillow or our Divine Duck - 100% Duck Down, or for a more affordable option our Gorgeous Goose Pillow has 85% down content and 15% feathers.

Hollowfibre Fillings

Hollowfibre pillows can still be just as much of a luxury as our feather filled pillows and are a great option if you suffer with allergies.

There's now a whole lot of science and technology that goes into creating premium fillings that feel just as great as down. Our two super hollowfibre pillows are our super affordable Good as Goose and our more premium Dreamy as Down.

Now you're armed with all the information, you just need to choose your new pillow and enjoy a restful night's sleep.
