Jordan and Russell are simply a joy to work with. Their enthusiasm for design and spaces was clear from the first time I met them in their lovely little coffee shop in Forest Hill.
We are so pleased to have worked with them to create their first ever product launch and our first ever design collaboration. To let you get to know them a little more we met to talk a bit about bedtime and their interior inspirations...
Describe what you do in 3 words.
Create. Collaborate. Push boundaries (we know that's 4).
What’s the best thing about what you do?
Every day is different, we get to work with amazing designers, artists and most of all clients. Every day is a new challenge and we get to tackle it together!
What’s the next big interior challenge in your home?
Urrrrgh windows! We have a detached Victorian home with 17 large windows and they really need a lot of work! Once we have done those though all the exciting, fun parts can start happening. We have however just finished our downstairs loo and we are very proud of it!
Which trends for 2016 do you love?
We hate the word “trend' although it's inevitable that you get caught up in them! We strongly believe that a home should reflect its owners and be truly personal and unique, so if orange was “on trend” you definitely shouldn't just follow the trend and paint all your rooms orange. We try to lead by trusting our instincts rather than following trends. But we have to admit the colours trends of serenity and rose quartz, pantone colours of 2016, are right up our street.
And which trends don’t float your boat?
This is funny, a few years ago we where asked a similar question and we said lilac! Fast forward 2 years and we have just completed a beautiful scheme for a client in lilac. I don't think there is such a thing as good or bad, it's about taste and being appropriate, as a good designer we should be able to make most things work, so when a client comes to us and says “I love zebra” it's our job to somehow incorporate it into a room!
Are you all about long lie-ins or up with the lark?
We are opposites, Russ is a night owl and I am a Lark!
Instagram or Twitter?
Both, for different reasons, Instagram is so instant and visual, so great for communicating quickly and with striking effect. Twitter is great to get involved with conversations, join a design debate and make new connections!
What's on your bed today?
Nothing it's Friday. We have stripped it this morning and will be putting on a crisp white set this evening (it's actually the striped Secret Linen Store set!!). There is nothing better than getting into clean sheets, nothing!
What do you love to wear to bed?
Who would you invite to your dream midnight feast? dead / alive/ animal?
This is going to sound really cheesy but we would invite our best friends! We have a great circle of friends but we are all always so busy and living in different parts of the world and it's impossible to get us all in the same room at the same time. So we would invite them... you know who you are. From Atlanta to Islington, to just around the corner! Midnight feast?
How do you like your eggs in the morning?
Poached, on brown toast with a little Marmite and black pepper. Russ - without the Marmite and black pepper just salt.
Clean sheet Friday or clean sheet Sunday? (Harriet and I disagree)
Friday it is!
Do you have a bedtime ritual, can you share it with us?
In all honesty it's very boring. Toilet, teeth and bed! I'd love to say we cleanse, tone, moisturise etc etc and although we do occasionally it's very easy to forget! We also spend our last waking moments every night checking off the to do list, looking at emails and discussing the next days itinery. Not the best ritual for a good nights sleep so we are trying to banish phones before bed. Trying. Eek. Sometimes when you run your own business, needs must.
Flat sheet or fitted sheet?
Flat sheet. We have a deep mattress and its hard to find fitted sheets that don't spring off!
You’re off for a weekend camping… What one luxury would you both take from your bedroom?
Camping, I don't think so. We did 'glamping' once for a dear friends wedding and Russ woke up with a slug on his forehead... nothing glamorous about that! No we prefer a nice hotel... fresh sheets and heating or air-con. Can't travel without a phone charger.
Tell us a secret?
OK... we would struggle to make zebra work in an interior... sorry, not sorry. And our mini dachshund sleeps in between us under the covers in our bed.
Who should Molly meet next?
Buckley the wonder dog? He sleeps a lot! Or perhaps James Norton from BBCs War and Peace – who wouldn't like to meet him?! ;)
